The Arctic Century Updates for Researchers

Much of what we publish is followed over months rather than filed once. For anyone working with that material—researchers, students, and journalists tracking the same files—the difficulty has never been finding a single article, it has been reconstructing the sequence.

This update of arcticcentury.org is aimed at that problem. The changes below are now live on our website.

What Changed#

  • Series: Multi-part coverage is now collected on a dedicated Series page. Each series is put together by hand. It lists its parts in reading order, oldest first, so a story can be read from its beginning instead of assembled from search results. Series still running are marked ongoing and sorted above completed ones, and they grow as each new part is published.

  • News grouped by publication day: Rather than one card per item, the feed now gathers each day’s news into a single dated card with the day’s tags collected in its header. Scanning a month of coverage takes a fraction of the scrolling it used to.

  • Reworked navigation: The navigation bar leads to Series and Authors directly, the archive has moved to the footer, and the 404 page has been rebuilt.

  • A documented RSS feed: The feed URL can now be copied in one click from the sidebar. For anyone monitoring a subject over time, a feed reader beats checking a homepage.

  • Technical improvements: Author credentials now carry icons for role and affiliation, page descriptions were rewritten site-wide, each feed page now holds more cards, which means fewer page loads to get through a period of coverage, and images and covers were optimized further.

What Comes Next#

Series is the part we expect to grow fastest, and it depends on judgment about which threads belong together. If you are working on a subject we cover and the sequence you need is not yet assembled, tell us through Contacts and we will look at building it.

One more update aimed at researchers follows soon.
