Chairman of Naalakkersuisut: The US Should Not Decide over Us
The chairman of Naalakkersuisut, the Greenlandic government, has commented on the latest statements from US President Donald Trump.
“The US should not decide over us. We can do that just fine ourselves.”
This is part of the message from the chairman of Naalakkersuisut, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, who is commenting on Facebook on the latest statements from US President Donald Trump.
The president has spoken out about Greenland again, this time on the program Real America’s Voice, where he hinted that he wants control of Greenland before his presidential term ends in 2029.
Jens-Frederik Nielsen watched football with the first Greenlandic professional footballer, Nemo Thomsen, and he uses the experiences as a starting point for his commentary on the president’s statements.
“Both experiences reminded me of something important. No matter where we meet, and no matter where in the world we are, we stand together. We rejoice in each other’s successes. We lift each other up. And we carry our community with us.”
According to Jens-Frederik Nielsen, that is important to remember when Trump once again talks about taking control of Greenland.
“What makes us strong is the strength we find in ourselves. In our unity. In our culture. In our history. And in our shared belief that the future is something we shape ourselves.”

Trust in the Americans Suffers Another Setback
Folketing member Naaja H. Nathanielsen also comments on Trump’s statements. She expresses understanding that the president’s statements arouse fear and unrest, because they are disturbing statements, and the situation is serious.
“And every time such a statement is made, trust in the Americans suffers another setback,” writes Naaja H. Nathanielsen on Facebook.
She further warns that more can be expected.
“We must not let that deter us! We have lived with this wild pressure for 20 months. From day one, we have shown both a willingness to listen and cooperate, and we have also communicated clear boundaries. Thank you to our politicians and our people for doing this together.”
“We must maintain our will for dialogue, involvement, and cooperation, and the recognition of international law. We are a Western ally, and the Kingdom’s diplomatic forces are working to ensure that this is precisely what resonates with the Americans.”
